Ukrainian People's Party (1999)
Ukrainian People's Party (Ukrainian: Українська Народна Партія, UNP) - Ukrainian right-wing political party. History
The group was formed in 1999 as a result of a split in the People's Movement of Ukraine on the initiative of about half of the NRU deputies and former Minister of the Environment Yuri Kostenko, who has been consistently headed. The formation was initially known as the Ukrainian People's Movement (or abbreviated as Movement), and in 2003 it was renamed the Ukrainian People's Party.
Before the parliamentary elections in 2002, the UNP joined the Our Ukraine Bloc, which won about 25 seats. In the 2004 presidential election the group supported Viktor Yushchenko. In 2005 some of the party leaders passed to the new party, the People's Union of "Our Ukraine" (including Minister Wjaczeslaw Kyrylenko).
In the 2006 parliamentary elections, UNP together with two small groups formed a coalition called the Ukrainian People's Block Kostenka and Pluszcza, which gained 1.9% of the vote and did not exceed 3% of the electoral threshold. The highest results of the block have reached over 10% in the western (including Ternopil).
In July 2007 the party joined the coalition Our Ukraine-People's Self-Defense for a joint start in the early parliamentary elections. Within the framework of the "Megabloku" in the 6th session of the Verkhovna Rada, the group received six MPs. In 2012 UNP activists unsuccessfully ran for the parliament of the list of Our Ukraine. In 2013 there were announcements of a UNP merger with a part of the NRU in a single party under the historic sign, which was ultimately not formally established. Bibliography
