Robert Sharpe Ainslie
Robert Sharpe Ainslie (1730-1812) was a British diplomat. As a long-time (1776-1792), the British ambassador in Constantinople sought to put an end to French influence at the Ottoman court. In 1787, Ainslie and the Swedish MP Gerhard Johan von Heidenstam, assisted by the Prussian Heinrich von Diez, tried to convince the Turks not to accept the peace conditions proposed by France as an intermediary to the enemy of Turkey - Russia.
The French ambassador Marie-Gabriel-Florent-Auguste de Choiseul-Gouffier lodged a complaint against the Swedish lawmaker Ainslie. Bibliography
