Henrique da Rocha Lima
Henrique da Rocha Lima (born November 24, 1879, died April 26, 1956) is a Brazilian physician and pathologist. Working in Germany, he discovered Rickettsia prowazekii, a pathogen that causes typhoid fever. He named him in honor of his late friend, Stanislaus von Provence. Henrique da Rocha Lima received a medical degree from the Medical School of Rio de Janeiro in 1905. He was one of the founders of the Oswaldo Cruza Institute, where he worked with other Brazilian scientists, including Oswald Cruze, Adolf Lutz, Carlos Chagas. Rocha Lima received the Chair of Pathological Anatomy at the University of Ludwik and Maximilian in Munich, and later at the Institute for Tropical Diseases in Hamburg. He was president of the Brazilian Society for the Development of Science. In his honor, he was named in 2007 Gram-negative bacteria Bartonella rochalimae. Bibliography Authoritative control (person):
