Johan Ludvig of Holstein


Zamek Ledreborg Johan Ludvig von Holstein (born 1694, died 1763) is a Danish politician, Minister of State in the years 1735-1751. The son of Johann Ernst von Holstein and Ilse von Kettenburg. He was, like many other German officials, the title Geheimrat, the State Councilman. Johan Ludvig von Holstein married Hedevig Vind in 1734. This was the birth of Christian Frederik Holstein-Ledreborg (1735-1799).

Holstein was a collector of old manuscripts, which he collected a considerable amount of. Its collections are currently located in the castle of Ledreborg, which was built in 1739. The castle has remained unchanged until the present day and has been owned by the Counts Holstein-Ledreborg family for 250 years. Holstein was made an honorary patron of the University of Copenhagen.
