Intermetallic phase

Elemental cell MgZn2 Mg Zn

Intermetallic phase - a solid phase whose crystalline lattice and properties are intermediate between the solid solution and the chemical compound.

Characteristics:

Intermetallic phases can be stable at stoichiometric or similar compositions as secondary solid solutions - polyurethane, interstitial or oily. In this case there is an excess of one of the components, but the crystal structure of the phase is retained. However, there are defects, such as vacancies.
