Bertrand de Montfavez


Bertrand de Montfavez (born 1270 in Cahors - died December 1, 1342 in Avignon) - French Cardinal. He came from Cahors. He studied law at the University of Toulouse, obtaining a doctorate and then becoming professor at the university. He was a friend of Cardinal Jacques d'Euse, who in 1316 became Pope John XXII. On 18 December 1316 he was appointed cardinal deacon of Santa Maria in Aquiro. Archbishop of the Lateran Basilica from 1327. He participated in the conclave of 1334. Between 1337 and 1340, as a legate of Benedict XII, he tried unsuccessfully to bring peace between France and England into the so- a hundred years war. He did not attend the conclave of 1342. He died in Avignon shortly after the election of Pope Clement VI.
