Fairy chimneys
Fairy chimneys - conical rock formation, typical of the Cappadocia landscape in Turkey. It consists of a basalt cover resting on a conical top of a softer rock usually tuff. Over the centuries, underground houses and even towns like the Kaymaklı have been hewn. They are now a major tourist attraction of this area.
Similar formations also occur in other regions of the world, including in Melnik (Bulgaria), the American National Parks, Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Bryce Canyon, the Canadian Drumheller in Alberta and elsewhere. These formations are called hoodoo.
Also one of the chambers in the Lechuguilla Cave in New Mexico is called Hoodoo.
