Jim Bacon


Jim Bacon, James Alexander Bacon (born 15 May 1950 in Melbourne, Australia, June 20, 2004) is an Australian politician.

He studied at Manesh University where he was a leader of the Maoist movement in the student milieu. He worked in trade unions in Tasmania. He departed from the Communist ideology and became a member of the Australian Labor Party.

In 1996 he became deputy, a year later the leader of the Labor Party in Tasmania; He led the party to victory in local elections and took over as Prime Minister of Tasmania in 1998, replacing Liberal Tony Rundle. Thanks to good economic results and the development of tourism, he secured his re-election in 2002. Due to cancer (lung cancer), he resigned from the prime minister's office in February 2004 and was replaced by former deputy prime minister Paul Lennon.
