Juozas Urbšys

Juozas Urbys (born 29 February 1896 in Szetejniech, Kiejdan, died 30 April 1991 in Kaunas)

In 1914 he graduated from high school in Panevezys. A year later he enrolled at the Technical University of Riga, in 1916 to become a member of the Russian army, in which he fought until 1917. After returning to Lithuania in 1918 he enlisted in the army of a young republic. From 1922 he worked at the Kaunas Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in 1922-27 he was consul in Berlin, then Paris (1927-32), and since 1933 he was Lithuanian ambassador in France.

On December 5, 1938, President Smetana was appointed Foreign Minister, who remained until June 1940.

After the Soviet entry into Lithuania in the summer of 1940, it was transported deep into Russia, to Saratov.

He is buried at the Petraszuk Cemetery in Kaunas.
