Methernitha

Methernitha (German: Methernitha, Genossenschaft) - a small Christian community (about 120 people) in Linden, Switzerland, since 1960 organized in the form of a cooperative. Members live in a community based on the idea of mutual help and exchange of resources according to the simple principle of "one for all, all for one". Do not use alcohol, nicotine or drugs. While remaining citizens of Switzerland, they pay taxes and pension contributions. At the end of the 1950s, a group of Swiss citizens led by Paul Baumann decided to create a community that would be based on Christian ideals and environmental concerns. Land was bought in the high valley of the Swiss Alps in the Canton of Bern, where construction of houses and workshops began. The first funds were obtained from the production of furniture.

The most important thing for the community is self-sufficiency, so renewable energies are used. Water pumps are powered by windmills and water is heated by solar collectors to meet the principle of "being in balance with nature". The community claims that it also produces the electricity it needs, also using the free energy devices (invented by Baumann), called Thesta-Distatica. The co-operative community has its own television station from which it transmits its own production programs. He runs his own school, nursing home and "clubhouse", the center of worship and archives.
