Opticalisation

Optical (spectral) sensitization - extends the sensitivity range of photosensitive material beyond the sensitivity range. For silver halides wavelengths greater than 520 nm.

Optical sensitization is accomplished by adding a small amount of organic dye to the photosensitive material. These dyes are characterized by the absorption of light in the wavelength range, which increases the sensitivity of the photosensitive material, and the ability to transfer the absorbed energy to the photosensitive material.
