Ganz-MÁVAG - Hungary's rail vehicle manufacturer based in Budapest was established in 1959 as a result of a merger of two companies - Ganz vállalatok and MÁVAG.
Ganz vállalatok (Hungarian company Ganz) was founded in 1844 and was named after Ábrahá Ganz, a Swiss-born engineer and iron producer in Switzerland. Mávag (Magyar Királyi Államvasutak Gépgyára, Hungarian Machine Factory of the Royal Family of State Railways) was founded in 1874. At the end of World War II, the term "royal" was removed from the name of the company.
The Ganz-MÁVAG company in Poland is mainly known for the supply of SM41 series of combustion engines and SN52, SN60 and SN61 series diesel engine cars. Mávag buses were also imported into Poland, then Ikarus.
