USS Eagle (1814)
USS Eagle was a brig, the third American unit to carry this name. He was launched as "Surprise" on August 11, 1814 in Vergennes, Vermont, at Adam and Noah Brown. He was renamed "Eagle" on September 6, 1814 and under Lieutenant R. Henley.
The ship was completed just before the decisive battle on Lake Champlain on September 11, 1814, the "Eagle" proved to be a brave ship. He was the first unit in the American lineage to fight "Chubb", "Linnet" and "Confiance" near Saratoga. During the battle he was hit 39 times and lost 13 killed and 20 wounded. Because the battle was placed in Whitehall, but it was sold in 1825. Bibliography
