Bálint Alsáni


Bálint Alsáni (born 1330 in Alsán - November 19, 1408 in Pecs) is a Hungarian Cardinal during the great schism of the West. Curriculum vitae

He came from a noble family. His father Janos Alsáni was a governor in Serbia and assigned him to a clerical state. He studied in France and Italy, obtaining a doctorate of both rights (Roman and canonical). Vice-Chancellor of King Louis I of Great 1373-74. On July 13, 1374, he was elected bishop of the Pecs, and shortly afterwards received the bishop's episcopal ordination. In 1381 he was with a diplomatic mission in Italy. In December 1384 he received a Cardinal nomination from Pope Urban VI, preserving the Diocese of Pecs as an apostolic administrator. He did not participate in any conclave that took place during his cardinal. In August 1407 he arrived at the court of Pope Gregory XII in Viterbo. He then went with him to Siena. There he fell ill and set off on a return trip to Hungary. He died in Pecs as Archbishop of the Holy College of Cardinals at the age of 78. Bibliography
