International Music Council
International Music Council (IMC) - an independent international non-governmental organization created in 1949 as a UNESCO advisory body in the field of music. It is based in Paris and the main goal is to facilitate the development and promotion of international music.
There are currently seventy-six national committees, thirty-four international organizations and thirty-five persons and honorary members - performers, composers and lecturers. It is represented by regional councils in Europe, Africa, the Arab world, the Americas and in Asia, Australasia and Oceania. The purpose of these councils is to develop and support programs created with particular regard to the needs of IMC members and their partners in each region. Thanks to them, IMC members work with over a thousand music organizations around the world.
One of the most widely known and regular types of activity is the annual International Composers' Forum, a meeting that offers representatives of the radio and television media a chance to promote contemporary music.
IMC has also introduced International Music Day, which is celebrated worldwide on October 1st. Bibliography
