Layout (Web)

Layout is a graphic design element that determines the appearance (color, decorative elements, fonts) and the placement of the content (content) on the page. In the design phase it can be a graphic file presenting the assumed style. Layout can be implemented in different technologies (eg SWF, HTML, CSS). Modifying a page layout does not imply interference with its content.

For many popular content management systems, the layout is generated based on so-called. Themes (skins). This is a collection of files that contain design elements and instructions for the system for their processing and assembly. To change the page layout, just install the skin and turn it on, most often with the help of a module. This is done without interfering with the skin and system code, making it very easy to control the interface without knowing the system API and programming language. The degree of freedom with which this layout is modified depends on the CMS used. In some cases, the layout of the elements is possible using the WYSIWYG editor. Skins created for different CMS are not compatible.

The concept of layout for web design was taken over from DTP - design and composition of the publication.

In most cases, the layout, colors, and most of all, the use of logos should be consistent across all products and forms of information about one person, company or organization. Shared, easily recognizable and identified with the company (person, organization) the graphic template enables the quick and effective recognition by the consumer - eg his brand, product or website.
