Damaris Cudworth Masham
Damaris Cudworth Masham (born 18 January 1659, died April 20, 1708) is an English philosopher, daughter of Ralph Cudworth, a philosopher. She was a close friend of John Locke, who at the end of her life, from 1691 to 1704, lived with her and her husband at their Oates house in Essex. He is the author of two works: A Discourse Concerning the Love of God (1696) and Occasional Thoughts in to a Virtuous or Christian Life (1694). In this second work, she appealed to women to try to reasonably examine the foundations of their religious faith. In addition, she corresponded with Leibniz and Locke on metaphysics.
