In 1918 he graduated from the Moscow school, then joined the Bolshevik army. He participated in a civil war with white men. Served in a car company, 2 spare cavalry regiments and artillery batteries of a special purpose division. In 1924 he graduated from the 1st Moscow Cavalry School and then became the commander of the 41st Regimental Cavalry Regiment. In 1927 he graduated from military school in Kiev. By the end of 1933, he served as an officer in the 1st Independent Cavalry Brigade and was transferred to the 79th Reserve Infantry Regiment in Tashkent. Since 1940 he was the head of the security forces of the NKVD of the Karaganda camps in the rank of captain. After the German army's assault on the USSR on September 15, 1941, he was deputy chief of the operational unit at the 81st Cavalry Division. From January 11, 1942, he commanded 216 regiments of cavalry. On June 7th, he was promoted to major. 1943 - Lieutenant Colonel. In February of this year he graduated from the Infantry School of the Infantry. Frunze, then took command of the 46th Guards regiment of cavalry. At the rear of the enemy, he was captured on 3 September and was imprisoned in the camp. Shortly after, he undertook collaborations with the Germans. In June 1944 he joined the Russian Liberation Army (ROA) Gen. Andrey Vlasov and began working at the ROA Propaganda School in Dabendorf. In July of that year, as a lieutenant colonel, he became commander of the company, and in November - 1602 infantry regiment of the 1st Infantry Division of the Committee for the Liberation of the Peoples of Russia. On March 5, 1945, he fought the Odra at the head of the regiment with the Red Army. Between May 5-8, his regiment was active in the Prague area. On May 12 and 12, Lieutenant Colonel W. Artiemiew conducted talks with the Soviet commander of 162 tank brigades in order to gain time to pass his troops to the area occupied by the Americans. He managed to get there and avoid repatriation to the USSR. In the years 1947-1950 he worked for the occupying US Army in Germany, then undertook scientific work at the US Army Institute. He gained the title of professor of military science. He was the author of many publications, including the book titled " "The First Navajo ROA" (1974). At the same time, he was active in anti-communist Russian immigrant organizations. He was one of the organizers of the Andrijevian Flagship Federation and a member of the Anti-Communist Center for the Movement of the Liberation of the Russian Peoples.
