DTS-CD, DTS Audio CD or 5.1 Disc (official name) is an audio CD containing surround sound music. It is a precursor of the DVD-Audio format. Physically, the disc is CD-Audio compliant, but there is another way to record audio. Normal CDs contain linear linear PCM music, and on DTS-CDs, the music is recorded in DTS format, with the same bitrate as regular 16-bit PCM, typically 1,411,200 bits / sec, or approximately 1,378 Kb / sec.
Unlike other formats, such as SACD and DVD-Audio, which require a special player, DTS-CDs are compatible with most standard digital CD players (S / PDIF). CD and DVD players recognize DTS-CDs as ordinary CDs.
Only a receiver capable of decoding a DTS stream is required.
