Furriery

Clothing - a division of the crafts and leather industry (fur coats, coats, fur, hats, gloves, muffles). Traditionally, the furrier himself made leather, and the goods were sewn and decorated only by hand. Part of the studio kept this way of work, the rest use machine sewing. The soldiers had their own characteristics, regulating customs, rules of occupation, settling disputes. The origins of furrying are hard to determine, its primitive forms already existed in the early days when people began to dress in animal skins. Tanning, dressing and sewing were a part of the community, unassigned to a particular profession. In Europe, fur has gained enormous popularity in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, when a separate occupation - furrierhood - emerged. The fur was made of clothes, blankets and furniture. Various furry animals, including rabbits, hares and even squirrels, were used for this purpose.

Fur clothing has a long history in Poland, especially in mountainous regions. In Podhale, the largest concentration of furs was located in the vicinity of Białka Tatrzańska and the Lublin Upland in Kurow. Workshops were there seasonally, during the autumn and winter. For the remainder of the year, sheep and goat farming were used. Sheepskin was used to produce sheepskins, especially young (half-yearly) lambs were valued. The craftsmen of each region used a distinctive design, although they usually used similar colors: white and several shades of brown (orange, honey, brown, cognac, olive). Contemporary colors are very rich, due to the changing fashion and customer needs.

Variety of ornaments makes the traditional sheepskin, and in particular the sarongs are very interesting and colorful. The embroidery is used for embroidery, leather trim or patterns, ornamental stitches.
