Michael Guhr

He completed his medical studies in Budapest in 1895, and then became the chief physician of the Tatra Polana, in 1902 he founded a sanatorium for tuberculosis patients. He began to promote climatology - he repeatedly wrote about it in professional magazines, both before the war and in the interwar period.
In his hiking in the Tatra Mountains he used skis; was an avid tourist and climber, promoting the development of skiing, sports and bobsleigh sports in the Hungarian part of the Tatras.
He was the first president of the Karpathenverein after the First World War (1920-1933) and also served on the steering committee. From 1913 he was the president of the first rescue organization on the southern side of the Tatra Mountains, he conducted first aid courses for guides and hostels.
In 1927, he bought land in the mountains near the saddle, which he donated to the Karpathenverein. The organization built a shelter there, named in his honor. Guhr Jugendheim und Turistenhaus (now the Bilik shelter). Apart from activities in the mountains, he also developed museums in the valleys. founded by the Hungarian Carpathian Society (MKE, predecessor of KV), the Great Tatras Museum (now part of Poprad, formerly a separate town) or the Carpathian Museum in Poprad (also founded by MKE). After death, the family donated souvenirs to the Carpathian Museum, which was placed in the special Guab-Gedenkzimmer Chamber of Remembrance. In 1937 Karpathenverein celebrated the memory of Michael Guhr with a commemorative plaque in the so- Shilágyi's shade on the saddle.
