Ohtahara syndrome (early onset epileptic encephalopathy with burst-suppression, EIEE) - a seizure syndrome manifesting clinically in the first three months of life, usually during the neonatal period. Etiology is not fully explained; EIEE media is considered to be a metabolic disorder or congenital malformation of the central nervous system. The genetic determinants of the Ohtahara team have not been identified. Epileptic seizures in EIEE are most often characterized by attacks of unconsciousness, myoclonus, tonic and tonic-clonic seizures, partial seizures, sometimes generalized seizures. Treatment is difficult; Therapeutic options are limited. Antiepileptics and corticosteroids are used. Over time, EIEE evolves towards other epilepsy syndromes, typically West syndrome or Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. EIEE described as the first Japanese epileptologist Shunsuke Ōtahara in 1976.
