USS LST-896
The USS LST-896 was a LST-542 tank destroyer. As many other units of this type did not receive a unit name and carried only a hull number.
The ship's keel was laid on October 6, 1944 in Pittsburgh, at Dravo Corp. He was launched on November 18, 1944, the godmother was Mrs. Russell D. Sttrouse. He entered service on October 20, 1944, commander was Lt. Vinton C. Vint.
After the end of World War II, LST-896 served in the occupation forces in the Far East and served in China until the beginning of December 1945. He was withdrawn from service on December 3, 1945 and scrapped from the fleet list on January 3, 1946. His corrupted by the typhoon It was destroyed on March 8, 1946. Bibliography
