Valerius Flakkus
Valerius Flakkus, Gaius Valerius Flaccus (I age n.e.) - Roman poet.
He was the author of the work of Argonautica, created between 70 and 95 and dedicated to Emperor Vespasian. Argonautica, the story of Jazona's trip to the Golden Runo, referred to the work of the Apollonios of Rhodeski under the same title. In the eight books of his only known work, Walerius Flakkus presented the Argonaut's history differently from his predecessor, adding new elements, some developing, others shortening and omitting. The journey itself has been postponed (probably lacking in the geographical preparation of Apollonios, the scholar and head of the Alexandrian Library), but the individual adventures were highlighted. Halfway through Book VIII, it can be assumed that Argonautica was not completed, especially since Quintylian's Speaker's training was regrettable for Flakkus's premature death. It is also possible that Argonautica has not survived to the present day. Bibliography Authoritative control (person):
