John Bingham Roberts

John Bingham Roberts John Bingham Roberts (born February 29, 1852 in Philadelphia, died November 28, 1924) is an American surgeon. John Bingham Roberts was born on February 29, 1852 as the son of Caleb Cresson Roberts and Helen S. Bingham. His Uncle R. J. Levis was a plastic surgeon. He attended Lawton School, at age 15, enrolled at the University of Pennsylvania. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson Medical College in 1874. In 1882, he was one of the founders of the Philadelphia Polyclinic and the College for Graduates of Medicine, where he taught surgery and anatomy. From 1890 to 1900 he was a professor of surgery at Women's Medical College. In 1918 the polyclinic became part of the University of Pennsylvania. As a plastic surgeon Roberts was primarily concerned with nasal sores, facial clefts and facial acne. He wrote the textbook "War Surgery of the Face". As one of the first to see the possibility of neurosurgery. He was the president of the American Academy of Medicine and the American Surgical Association.
