Montezuma Castle National Monument


Montezuma Castle National Monument Montezuma is a national monument in the state of Arizona. In its area are the ruins of a settlement built by the Indians in a vertical cliff. The stone-built settlement consists of 20 rooms located on 5 different levels.

The monument was established by President Theodore Roosevelt on December 8, 1906. In 1937 the area under protection was enlarged. Today it occupies an area of ​​6.70 km² and many other national monuments are managed by the National Park Service. Since 1951 access to the ruins has been closed to the public and can only be viewed from a distance.
