Stefan Makné
Stefan Makné (born 1 September 1927 in Poznań, died 26 October 2011 in Gniezno) - Polish balloon pilot, glider and airplane, winner of the Gordon Bennett Cup in 1983 (with Ireneusz Cieslak). Curriculum vitae
During World War II he was a member of the Gray Ranks, after the war he was imprisoned, he could not deal with aviation during Stalin's time. He graduated from the Faculty of Mechanics of Poznan University of Technology with a degree in aviation engineering with specialization in airframe design. He was a member of the Poznań Aero Club. In 1975 he won Poland's glorious championship in the standard class and in 1977 in the open class.
In 1972 he became chairman of the balloon council of the Polish Aeroclub and contributed to the rebirth of balloon sport in Poland. He trained Polish, Czechoslovak and Hungarian pilots. In 1979, in the team with Ireneusz Cieślak, he took 20 in the warm-up balloon world championship, and in 1980, in the world championship, gas balloons were paired with the same tenth player. In the years 1982-1983 he was the president of the Poznan Aero Club.
His greatest sporting success was his victory in the first post-World War II Gordon Bennett Cup in 1983 in the crew created with Ireneusz Cieślak. Polish duo in the balloon SP-BZO Polonez took off June 28, 1983 from Paris and after 36 hours and 26 minutes landed in the German village Offenstetten, reaching a distance of 690 km. It was the only Polish postwar victory in these competitions. This success also brought them 8th place in the Sporting Review poll of the best Polish athlete in 1983. In the subsequent editions of the Gordon Bennett Cup, he also started sixteen times, doubling 2m (1985 with Waldemar Ozga, 1988 with Grzegorz Antkowiak), doubling 3m (1984 with Jerzy Czerniawski, 1991 with Grzegorz Antkowiak), 5m. 9 m.
