Device sensitive to electrostatic discharge
Symbol ESD
Electrostatic Discharge. The ESD symbol signifies any device (mainly electrical) that can be damaged by electrostatic discharge in devices, people, tools and other insulators or semiconductors. Electrostatic charge is generated when the two surfaces interact (eg the floor with the floor). Man also charges with static electricity when walking, working, or driving.
The state of the electrified surface is determined by the electrical potential of the unit.
Depending on the material the surface is made of, these voltages may differ, and are therefore indicative:
Particularly sensitive to electrostatic discharge are:
Often, ESD is defined as the protection of systems against electrostatic discharges. Foam or special bags are used for transporting ESD. When installing, use grounded mats or grounded tools to prevent damage.
ESD protective materials are divided into:
To protect electronic circuits (mainly printed circuits) from electrostatic discharge, employees must be "earthed", using special heel straps (heels) or wrists connected to the ground.
The ESD protected area is marked by an EPA.
ESD methods and conditions define EN 61340-5-1: 2009 and EN 61340-5-2: 2002.
