Marines in MCCUU and ILBE Improved Load Bearing Equipment or ILBE is a newly developed backpack of the US Marine Corps designed to replace currently used ALICE and MOLLE backpacks. History
ILBE was created as the successor of MOLLE system backpacks. MOLLE backpacks did not satisfy the USMC soldiers - they were unstable, uncomfortable and poorly interoperable with the Interceptor Body Armor System. Due to the fact that the modernization of MOLLE backpacks did not meet the expectations, work was undertaken on the new system. In 2003, two projects - Bianchi and Propper International - were selected for testing.

Both projects were lighter than MOLLE. Field tests of backpacks were made in 2003. The final project was selected on January 15, 2004. A modified version of Propper International was introduced. Description of construction
ILBE is manufactured by Propper Inc.. The backpack is made of thick Cordura 725 fabric in Marpat camouflage. It is also covered with tapes that can be attached to the pouches.
