Jan den Haen (born 1630 in Gouda - died June 2, 1676 in Palermo) - Dutch admiral.
In 1659, he became the extraordinary captain of the Admiralty of Amsterdam and under the command of Admiral de Ruyter took part in the campaign against Sweden. He distinguished himself during the Battle of Lowestoft in 1665, during which he captured an enemy ship, for which he was appointed an ordinary captain. In 1670 he became the Rear Admiral (schout-bij-nacht). On March 22, 1672, he defended the smirn convoy against the attack of 18 English ships, losing only 3 of his 72 sailing ships. In 1673 De Ruyter made a rally to the Thames estuary, and then took part in the Texel battle. After this battle he became a Vice Admiral. In 1675, Haen departed as deputy de Ruyter in the Mediterranean, and after the latter's death at the Battle of Augusta he took over the command of the Dutch fleet in that area. He died on 2 June 1676 in the Battle of Palermo, during which the French almost completely destroyed the Dutch-Spanish fleet with the help of the brand. Bibliography
