Orangerie in Darmstadt
Orangerie in Darmstadt - south facade Orangerie in Darmstadt - north facade Orangerie Orangerie is a conservatory building in the German city Darmstadt in the district of Bessungen in the south of the city.
In 1716 French architect Louis Remy de la Fosse was commissioned by Ernest Ludwik, a landgrave of Hessen-Darmstadt. The building was built between 1719-1721 in the Baroque style.
The building looks completely different on both sides. On one side you can see the typical shape of a Baroque mansion, on the other there are large arched windows.
The baroque park next to the building is the work of J. K. Ehret of Heidelberg, court gardener of Hesse-Darmstadt.
After the Second World War, the building served as a temporary seat of the theater.
Today it is used as a concert hall due to its excellent acoustics. In the north part is located, among others. restaurant. Bibliography
