Prompter (also teleprompter, autocue) - a device for displaying pre-recorded text that is read by a person standing in front of the camera.
The prompter screen is mounted horizontally in front of the camera lens, and the image produced by it is mirrored by Venetian mirrors located on the optical axis of the camera. The person reading the Prompter text can look directly at the lens, giving the illusion of natural speaking from memory.
To minimize the diffraction of the image of the Prompter through the mirror to the camera lens, the most commonly used white text is displayed on a black background.
Prompets are mainly used in television studios, but they are also used during speeches and concerts.
In some cases, instead of the prompter, cue cards are used instead of the saved or printed text. These boards must be located outside the camera axis, so the person reading the text can not look straight into the lens. Interesting facts
