China Video Disc

CVD (China Video Disc) - a format for recording multimedia on CDs created during the development of the SVCD standard and very similar to it. The most important difference is the lower (horizontal) resolution that is 352x480 (NTSC) or 352x576 (PAL / SECAM). Since the 352x480 / 576 is one of the typical DVD-Video resolutions, the image (but not audio) in the CVD format is fully compatible with it, so avoiding the aliasing problem of SVCD playback on DVD players. Lower resolution reduces the bit rate while maintaining the minimum number of artifacts. CVD supports all additional features (additional subtitles, alternate audio tracks, etc.) present in the SVCD standard.
