Dance macabre (Saint-Saëns)

Danse macabre opus 40 - Camille Saint-Saëns's symphonic poem from 1874. The premiere took place on January 24, 1875. The name of the skeleton dance is also used. Danse macabre – Michael Wolgemut

The work was created by the poet of the French poet Henry Cazalis, referring to the popular theme in the literature and art from the Middle Ages.

In terms of formal construction, the Danse macabre is an elaborate roll with two themes in a variant. The composer used the illustrative capabilities of xylophone, in which the dry and hard color of the sound is clearly audible, the clanging of skeletons rotating in the dance. The content of the song is very clear: It is midnight. Deafening voice (violin solo) death spurs the ghosts. The sport, growing in wilder dance, puts an end to cock roasting at dawn (played on the oboe). In the vanishing of death is the promise of the day.
