General Public Virus
General Public Virus - A pejorative term for certain versions of a copyleft or General Public License that requires that any tool or application containing a copyleft license or a link to a GPL-licensed library be distributed under the same hypothetical conditions as GNU. So copyleft "infects" GNU-based or GNU-coded software, which in turn can "infect" further software that uses parts of its code. This belief is in line with the official position of the Free Software Foundation
The widespread suspicion that copyleft is a minefield has caused many developers and companies to avoid using code based on the GNU license.
