Hiolity

Hyoliths († Hyolitha) - a group of extinct animals from the Lophotrochozoa clan, living from the Cambrian to the Permian. Jerzy Dzik classifies them into molluscs (Mollusca); whereas Moysiuk, Smith, and Caron (2017) suggest their closer relationship with crystals and brachiopods.

In Cambrian and the Ordovician, this group was an important component of marine fauna. Hiolites have elongated, conical, two-seater symmetrical shells, flattened on one side. The shell was closed with a lid. At the estuary, there were droplets of unknown function.

Hiolites lived only in the marine environment and led the benton lifestyle. Probably they were musketeers. Bibliography
