Echekrates of Thessaly


Echekrates (Ἐχεκράτης, 3rd century BC) - a soldier from Thessaly. He was one of the persons whom the ministers of Ptolemy IV Phoenician recruited to recruit and divide the company of the Egyptian army in preparation for the war with Antioch the Great in 219 BC. He was commanded by the Greeks at Ptolemy's marriage and over all the cavalry. He was a good commander, and was particularly outstanding at the battle of Rafii in 217 BC. Polibius [Polyb.
