Hisar Mountains


Hisak (Katorkuhi Hisor) is a mountain range in Alajuela (Tajikistan and part of Uzbekistan), neighboring with the Bajsuntau mountains, Babatag and Aktau and Pamir from the south and the Zarafsian mountains from the north. It runs parallel in the area of ​​about 200 km, forming a division of water between the Zarafsan basin and the upper Amu darya. Height up to 4634 m n.p.m. Mountains formed mainly of crystalline rocks, slate and sandstone interrupted by granite intrusion. In the lower parts there are tree-and-shrub vegetation, above - subalpine and alpine meadows and mountain xerophytes. To the south of the mountains, the Hercegovina Valley (about 700-1000 m altitude) is paralleled by the agricultural region (cotton, wheat, sesame, flax, orchards and gardens), where Dushanbe, Tajikistan's capital lies.
