Mikhail Chwastou
Міхаіл Хвастоў, born June 27, 1949 in Kozlovskoye, Vitebsk Oblast - Belarusian state activist, longtime ambassador in the USA, Canada and Mexico, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Belarus (2000- 2003). Curriculum vitae
He graduated in international law at the Belarusian State University and studied Romanology at the State University of Linguistics in Minsk. He joined the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1982. In 1992 he assumed the post of First Secretary of the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in Washington (until 1993), previously held the position of representative of Belarusian SRR and Belarus at the UN. On his return to Poland he was the director of the Department of Diplomatic and Legal Affairs (1993-1994), as well as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs (1994-1997). In 2000 he briefly advised the president on international politics. In the years 2000-2003 he was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus.
From 1997 to 2000 he was an ambassador in Ottawa. On September 8, 2003, he delivered letters of credence to the President of the United States, commencing the mission of the Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus to Washington. Since February 17, 2004 he has also been accredited in Mexico. Since June 2009 he has been a permanent representative of the Republic of Belarus at the UN branch in Geneva.
