Wenda (Chinese: wèndá 問答 - literally question-answer) - Chinese term associated with Buddhism chan, dialogue, conversation, series of questions and answers in the chan / Zen is used by Zen masters to investigate the degree of spiritual development of the practitioner of chan / zen. It is not about demonstrating the theory of Buddhism, but about spontaneous answers showing insight into the nature of the Buddha.

Such a conversation at a spiritually developed level (eg, between a master and an attending enlightenment student) becomes a fight or a duel of the Dharma. Formerly a nomadic monk, to be admitted to a monastery overnight, he had to win a verbal duel with the hosts, thus proving the strength of his practice.
