Carl Friedrich von Kulmiz
Carl Friedrich von Kulmiz (born 17 May 1809 in Jawor, died April 25, 1874 in Łażany - German entrepreneur.
Since 1842 he started his business. He participated in the construction of the first railway line in Silesia, during which he discovered near the town of Żary deposits of kaolin, lignite and pyrite, which contributed to the founding of "Silesia" and "Szamotowni" mines. Together with his younger son he built a gas station and waterworks, all the time acting charity for the employees of the factory. Carl Friedrich von Kulmiz was born on May 17, 1809 in Jawor. Father Carl, bearing the same name, was the landowner in the vicinity of Jawor. After the death of his second wife, the first died very early, went to Hungary to the son of the first marriage. He had to sell the estate because Carl, the son of the second marriage, never owned land, and chose a military career. In 1836 he married Maria Huebner. He was a lieutenant in artillery, and in 1842, due to neck disease, he resigned from military service. The builder of the first railway lines in Lower Silesia. He founded a network of large trading companies at railway stations. He organized coal trading in Silesia. Industry creator in Żarów. In 1850 he founded a factory of chamotte bricks, two years later a glassworks and a mechanical factory with an iron foundry. By building in 1858 the chemical plant "Silesia" was the creator of the chemical industry in Silesia. For his economic achievements in 1866 he was awarded the title of nobleman. He was a very socially oriented employer, initiator of numerous charitable actions in Żarów. He had seven children, three of whom did not survive childhood. He died in 1874.
