Burgward
Burgward - a military-administrative district, organized by the Germans in the conquered territories of the Western Slavs - Thuringia, Brandenburg and Saxony. Burgwardy were established and functioned since the 10th century as centers of colonization of the land of the Slavic Slavs. They consisted of a central castle (burg), most often still of Slavic origin, giving the name of the whole unit, and of a dozen or so villages surrounding economic and economic backgrounds. Burgwardy finally disappeared in the 13th century after the final strengthening of German rule in these areas.
