Before the First World War he was a student at the Polytechnic in Budapest. During the First World War he served as a soldier of the Austro-Hungarian Army. During the September campaign a soldier of the Polish army. Participant of the Polish resistance movement. In the interwar period and during World War II the owner of a mechanical workshop in Lesko. During the German occupation he saved from the death of 6 Jews. From the transitional camp in Zaslaw, he led Jafa Wallach, wife of Dr. Nana Wallacha. For more than 22 months, he hid five people in his basement of his workshop, including the Wallach family from Sanok. The daughter of the Wallach, Renee Bernstein, hid Jan Budkol in Bezmiechowa.
In 1980, Jozef Zwonarz and his wife Franciszka (1908-1971) were awarded the Righteous Among the Nations medal. Both were buried in the cemetery in Lesko.
