Kabaret Lapin Agile at Montmartre
Lapin Agile is a Parisian cabaret located on the street des Saules 22 in the center of the Montmartre district in the 18th arrondissement of Paris. Cabaret is located north of Sacré-Cœur Basilica.
Originally, the cabaret was called Cabaret des Assassins. This name was given because of the memory of the son of the owner of the cabaret who was killed in a cabaret attack. Cabaret for more than 20 years did not have a permanent name until 1875 when artist André Gill proposed the name of the cabaret Le Lapin à Gill from the name near the nightclub of the same name.
During the next summer, the name of the cabaret evolved to the present, Cabaret Au Lapin Agile or simply Lapin Agile. In the early years of the 20th century, Lapin Agile was one of the favorite places of leisure for writers and painters including Pablo Picasso, Amadeo Modigliani, Guillaume Apollinaire and Maurice Utrillo. Lapland Agile w 1885 In addition to popularity among artists, Lapin Agile was a famous meeting place for criminals, pimps and local anarchists from the Latin Quarter.
In 1905 Pablo Picasso painted the painting "In Cabarete Lapin Agile", which made the cabaret famous. Cabin Lapin Agile was also a frequent motif of Maurice Utrillo's work.
