Pittura metafisica (aka metaphysical painting) - a term that describes the work of the Italian painter Giorgia de Chirico in 1911-1918, who is considered the creator of this direction (his theory was created with Guillaume Apollinaire and his brother Albert Savinio). Chirico was inspired by romanticism, philosophy, archeology, mythology and ancient art. This concept of metaphysical space has become very important for the creators of the surrealist movement. In his spirit, Alberto Savinio, Giorgio Morandi, Arden Soffici, as well as Carlo Carrà and other futuristic painters.
