Planespotting

Will meet at the airport Spot the observers plane

Planespotting is similar to trainspotting, but in which all aircraft are subject to observation. Amateur hobbyists often observe passenger planes (around the runways of civilian airports) or military aviation (military airfields). The appearance of the aircraft and its type and other data are mostly quoted. Some hobbyists also photograph flying objects.

There is also the notion of RNAV Spotting, that is shooting usually passenger aircraft, but also the military at a cruising altitude of about 10 000 m. To be able to take such pictures, you need very good optical telescope equipment, usually connected to a digital SLR , but there are also connections to the ordinary compact.

Spotlights are divided into groups that observe military and civilian aircraft. In most cases they are organized into groups related to the nearest airports. The names of the groups are from the airport name in the ICAO nomenclature (International Civil Aviation Organization).
