R2 signaling system - this is the signaling system associated with the channel. Used to transmit information between two telecommunication switches to establish a connection. Although the protocol was created in the 1960s, it is still used in some Asian countries as well as in Latin America.

Signaling R2 consists of two main sections Linear signaling

The linear signal is handled by the protocol group responsible for occupying and releasing resources when attempting to establish a telecommunication connection. For this purpose, only the first two bits of signaling information are used. These are bits A and B, the remaining bits C and D do not have a specific function. Their values ​​differ between countries using this system.

Linear signals can be divided into three different types: Signal logging

The log message is handled by a group of protocols responsible for transporting the address information during the connection setup phase. Although this system was created to make connections using electromechanical tools, in the 1970s, facilities were added that allowed the system to be adapted also to full-power platforms such as PCM.
