Stachys (Biblical character)
Stachys - According to Biblical Romans 16: 9 - a Christian belonging to the municipality of Rome. Paul of Tarsus called him "his beloved" in his letter, sending him greetings.
The fact of naming him "beloved" does not, however, lead to his particular affinity with Paul, or even their familiarity.
According to Pseudo-Dorothea, he was one of 72 disciples of Jesus Christ, and later Andrew the Apostle appointed him the first bishop of Byzantium. According to the Basilian Martyrs, he conducted missionary activities in Agryropolis (Thrace).
Roman Martyrologium mentions Stachys on October 31st. Bibliography
