fabliaux

Fabliaux (sing. fabliau) - a literary genre in medieval French literature, mostly composed of poems. They were mostly built in the 13th century in north-eastern France.

Fabliaux belongs to the plebeian literature, and they are satirical in character. Style is rude and humorous humor. The intent of the works is often moralizing. Rarely, however, is typical of many medieval literary genres - including fairy tales - allegorism, which replaces direct observation of life.

Fabliaux is characterized by the simultaneous operation of circular motifs and the current customary motifs. Circumvent motives include, in particular, descriptions of the adventures of typical figures of medieval social life - monks, knights, priests, etc.
