Herb Łochowa
New coat of arms Lochowa coat of arms, valid until May 19, 2008
The coat of arms of Łochów (municipality of Łochów in Mazowieckie voivodeship) presents in the green heraldry shield the yellow head of moose. The original version of the coat of arms with this motif was designed by a cartoonist and caricaturist, Szymon Kobyliński, a resident of Lochowa. On May 20, 2008, a new coat of arms design by Andrzej Heidrich, approved by the Heraldic Commission at the Ministry of Interior and Administration. An earlier coat of arms, adopted by the Municipal Council in 1977, represented a golden monogram in a red dial between a golden gear and a gold ear.
In 2005 the municipality of Łochów undertook to endorse the design of the municipal flag and the seal. A competition was announced in this issue. in the Gazeta Łochowska. Selected works were sent to the Herald's Commission at the Ministry of Interior and Administration. The Commission rejected the proposal as incompatible with historical tradition. According to the Commission, the name Łochów is not derived from moose, but is a loch (name) from the name of Loch. A similar thesis is made by a local history researcher, Stanisław Sęczyk, in his 1993 book "Dzieja Łochowa i okolic", where he puts five hypotheses of the origin of the name of the city, the most likely of which is the lease name of Loch or Łoch. However, he decides to reject the origin of the animal's name. However, in 2008, the coat of arms project, in the new version of the moose head, was accepted by the Commission. Bibliography
